Health : Your real ‘Real Estate’ !
( Dear readers, I am giving translations of some sayings in Hindi, the national language of India, for the benefit of the Indian readers, because a majority of Indian people are weak in English, even today )
The famous proverb goes : Health is wealth ( स्वास्थ्य ही धन है )
Sandeep Maheshwari, the youngest entrepreneur of India, has said in a public seminar : ‘Health’ is the biggest success in life
Mahaakavi Kalidas, the great Sanskrit scholar of ancient India has said : Shareeramaadyam Khalu Dharmasaadhanam ( शरीरमाद्यं खलु धर्मसाधनम ). It is in Sanskrit language of ancient India. It means “ Health is the first important thing, afterwards go for religious practices or other practices”.
Lord Buddha has said : Shareeram shuddham rakshet ( शरीरं शुद्धं रक्षेत् ). It is in Sanskrit language of ancient India. It means, “ One should keep one’s health pure”.
Again Lord Buddha has said : Health is the greatest gift, contentment the greatest wealth, faithfulness the best relationship. ( स्वास्थ्य सबसे बड़ा उपहार है, संतोष सबसे बड़ा धन है, वफ़ादारी सबसे बड़ा संबंध है। – गौतम बुद्ध).
Again Lord Buddha has said : To keep the body in good health is a duty… otherwise we shall not be able to keep our mind strong and clear. ( हमारा कर्तव्य है कि हम अपने शरीर को स्वस्थ रखें।।। अन्यथा हम अपने मन को सक्षम और शुद्ध नहीं रख पाएंगे। — बुद्ध )
George Burns, someone famous, has said : If you ask what is the single most important key to longevity, I would have to say it is avoiding worry, stress and tension. And if you didn’t ask me, I’d still have to say it. ( अगर आप मुझसे पूछे कि दीर्घ आयु का क्या राज़ है, तो मैं कहूंगा कि चिंता और तनाव से बचें। और आप न भी पूछे तब भी मैं यह बताना चाहूंगा। — जॉर्ज बर्न्स )
Renu Chaudhary, someone famous, has said : No medicine can compensate for un-healthy living ( कोई भी दवा अन-हेल्दी लिविंग की क्षतिपूर्ति नहीं कर सकती है। ) —
Again Renu Chaudhary has said : Medicine is useless when food is wrong, medicine is needless when ood is right. ( जब आहार गलत हो, दवा किसी काम की नहीं है; जब आहार सही हो, दवा की कोई ज़रुरत नहीं है। — रेणु चौधरी )
So, dear readers, viewers, students, friends, you have seen that how importancy has been placed on health.
If your health is OK, then you are OK, even if your other things are not OK.
Imagine that God has sent you on this earth, or you have come on this earth, on a voyage or journey, called ‘Life’, and after completing the coursed or programmed journey, you will return back to the place or God’s kingdom, from where you have come into this earth. Now, what is your vehicle in this journey ? Obviously, your this physical body. Because, you are residing in your physical body, your physical body is your vehicle. You are on a journey of life riding on the vehicle of this physical body.. If you go for a journey with your own vehicle, then the first & foremost important thing is your vehicle should be in good condition and OK. Otherwise, that journey will turn into a risky matter full of tensions. That is why, it has been emphasised that your health i.e. physical body i.e. vehicle should be OK if you want to enjoy your life-journey comfortably.
What does the word ‘Health’ actually mean ? Health means a handsome body free from any disease and problem. Health doesn’t mean a heavy robust figure fit for wresting.
Nowadays, the lifestyle of people has become so much busy that people hardly find time and scope to focus on their health. Very few peoplr are properly healthy nowadays. In USA, maximum people are suffering from ‘Obesity’. In India, it has become like a tradition to catch Diabetes, BP (Hypertension), Gall stone, Cataract, etc, when the age crosses 40. Nowadays, people are running life like rat-race, like ordinary animals, without paying much attention to health-maintaining rules and practices.
But, friends, you have to manage time and scope to focus at least to some extent upon your health, if you want to live happily and enjoy your life-journey.
Nowadays, general trend is, to run busy life as usual, and to visit a Doctor and gallop some pills, take injections, etc, when fallen ill. But, medicines & injections can only cure you of that disease. Depending whole-heartedly on Doctor, Nurse, Hspital, Clinic, Medicines, etc can not keep you satisfactorily healthy. You must have to follow health-maintaining rules and regulations.
When people fall ill, they generally go for modern Western Allopathy system of treatment. This modern Allopathy medical system is very effective in certain cases like treatment of serious deseases, operation or surgery, tooth extraction, delivery & child birth, sudden accident, etc. But, this Allopathy system can not assure you of general sound health. You have to follow certain rules and regulations and also hygienic practices to remain healthy & fit.
Some diseases are caused by ‘germs’. But, if you are healthy and strong, no germ can attack you and make you ill so easily. Some diseases are caused by lack of nutrition. So, avoid ‘junk food’, take nutritious healthy food. Some diseases are caused by wrong lifestyle and habits. So, adopt reasonable, judicious lifestyle and habits.
In India, there is a health maintaining system or science, called Yoga ( योग ). It has another branch also called Ayurveda ( आयुर्वेद ). Nowadays, there has become a hue & cry all over the world about this Indian Yoga to popularise it. Many famous personalities also have come up for this Yoga campaign, like Baba Ramdev in India, etc. Very recently, UN also has declared the date ‘21 June’ as the International Yoga Day, to popularise Indian Yoga with an attempt to improve general health consciousness of the public world over.
But, culture of ancient Indian Yoga and modern busy lifestyle are severely opposite to each other. Indian Yoga culture don’t support modern busy lifestyle, and vice versa. If you are at all interested to adopt Indian Yoga culture, then you must have to maintain a judicial and reasonable balance between the two exactly contradictory systems. Otherwise, if you become wholly dependent on Yoga culture, you will face some critical problems, as fas as my experience goes.
To remain healthy and fit, you will find lakhs of books and websites available in the market and internet. You will become mad as whom to follow, what to follow, which will be the best and easiest for your modern busy lifestyle, etc.
