Cricket is one of two kings of games, the other being soccer (football).

Cricket is nowadays being played and patronized in many countries all over the world. The fan circle of cricket is also increasing gradually.

The following are the nicknames attributed to various international cricket teams of different countries all over the world. These names are used with the mindset of love, not of hatred. These nicknames may aften be found used by media.

Behind some nicknames, there is valid reason (explained within the bracket). Behind other names, no reason can be attributed, may be the fan circle or media has created these out of their intense love for cricket and cricketers.

Australia : The invincibles (meaning difficult to defeat). Aussies. Kangaroos (because the national animal of Australia is kangaroo).

Bangladesh : The tigers. Because, Bangladesh and the Bengal region (especially the Sundarban area attached with the Bay of Bengal)) is homeland of world-famous ‘Royal Bengal Tiger’.

India : The blues. Men in blue. Because, the uniform of the Indian team is blue in colour.

Ireland : Green and whites. Men in green.

Nepal : The rhinos. The Gorkhas.

New Zealand : The black caps. Kiwis.

Pakistan : Men in green. The Gang green. The green shirts. Green army. Cornered tigers.

South Africa : The proteas. The saffas. The saffaris.

Sri Lanka : Slankans. The lions (because lion is the national animal of Srilanka, pictured on their national flag).

Uganda : Cricket cranes.

West Indies : The windies.

Zimbabwe : The chevrons.
